A craft beer brewed by students during a university course will be sold on-tap in a Christchurch bar.

Food science students at Lincoln University were tasked with developing a craft beer for their principles of malting and brewing course.

The class of 35 made various styles of beer, with the top two being determined by a taste test.

Local brewery Thief Brewing will make a large-sized brew of one of the winners, which will be placed on tap at New Regent St's The Institution bar from Thursday.
